'Heads on sticks': BAFTA preparations in full swing

As London’s Royal Opera House gets ready to roll out its BAFTA red carpet on Sunday night, behind-the-scenes preparations are going full steam ahead.

In fact, four days ahead of the event, famous faces have already filled the room. ‘Heads on sticks’ have been laid out marking who will be sitting where during the ceremony – this is to check any camera blocking issues which might affect filming on the night.

If the rehearsal is anything to go by, it looks like Marion Cotillard, Jessica Chastain, Daniel Day-Lewis and Dame Helen Mirren will all be sat in the same row. As Daniel’s film hotly-tipped film Lincoln is competing against Jessica’s Zero Dark Thirty for the Best Film category, let’s hope any rivalry on the night is friendly.

While not everyone will scoop one of the prestigious BAFTA awards, no one will go home empty-handed. A sneak peek in the goody bag revealed an Escada silk scarf, Hotel Chocolat Pink Champagne Truffles and other treats – all presented in a timeless Anya Hindmarch tote bag.

The EE and Esquire pre-party took place last night at the Savoy Hotel, bringing together Rising Star nominees such as Andrea Riseborough, Tom Hiddleston and Adam Deacon. Helping to toast their successful year in Beaufort Bar with free-flowing Taittinger champagne cocktails were model David Gandy, fashion designer Mathew Williamson and presenter Caroline Flack.

This year’s ceremony, hosted by Stephen Fry, is set to be a magnificent evening with some of the industry’s brightest stars expected to attend including Anne Hathaway, Bradley Cooper , George Clooney, Jennifer Lawrence, Hugh Jackman and Ben Affleck.
