Days before, staff had diligently prepared to make sure everything would go according to plan, starting with the all important seating arrangement inside the Royal Opera House, where the awards ceremony will later take place.

In the main hall, staff set up cardboard photos of the high-profile attendees, including nominees Leonardo DiCaprio, Amy Adams, Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett. The gold envelopes that will reveal who has won what in Sunday's ceremony were prepared, tightly sealed and laid out backstage.

As for the coveted trophies themselves, the iconic BAFTA masks were buffed and polished by hotel butlers at the nearby Savoy Hotel and stored for safe keeping in neatly aligned rows.

Final preparations were also made for the gift bags, which will be handed out to nominees at the ceremony. Staff loaded up the BAFTA designed bags with goodies from Taittinger, Cocorose, Hackett and Lancôme among other luxurious brands.

Attendees will leave the event at Covent Garden and make their way to the official after-party at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane. Head chefs have long been preparing for this star-studded night and finalised a menu of prime beef steak and decadent chocolate cake among other food that resembled exquisite works of art.

Each table has been themed as one of the Best Film nominees, with a white painted violin representing 12 Years a Slave on one table.

Meanwhile, outside the Royal Opera House, security have cordoned off areas to the public and rolled out the red carpet that stars are set to walk down and showcase their stunning dresses. Eager fans and photographers have started lining up behind the barriers, posting snaps of the BAFTA banners.
